Shoot Prep Guide
Short-Term Rental & Vacation Home Photography
Before we begin
A little preparation goes a long way in creating images that make your listing stand out and attract more bookings.
01
Clean Inside & Out
- Clean all rooms, dust surfaces, and remove any clutter throughout the space.
- Make all glass surfaces — windows, mirrors, and shower doors — spotless and streak-free.
- Sweep patios, decks, and outdoor areas. Remove leaves, dirt, and any trash.
02
Lighting
- Confirm all bulbs are working — replace any that are burnt out before the shoot.
- Open all curtains and blinds to let in as much natural light as possible.
- I typically photograph interiors with lights off to capture natural light, so no need to turn them on ahead of time.
- For exterior twilight shots, I'll turn on interior lights to create a warm, inviting glow.
03
Outdoor Details
- Check that all outdoor and string lights are in working order.
- Tuck away trash bins, garden hoses, and anything that isn't part of the intentional décor.
- Move vehicles out of the driveway before exterior shots are taken.
04
Bedding & Towels
- Make all beds neatly and style them to your liking — this is a key focal point in every listing.
- Fold, roll, or hang towels evenly for a polished, hotel-quality look.
05
Hide the Small Stuff & Declutter
- Tuck away cords, toilet brushes, plungers, cleaning supplies, pet bowls, and personal items.
- Keep countertops, shelves, and tables clear of excess — less is always more in photos.
- Minimal, intentional styling photographs best. When in doubt, take it out.
06
Dining Table
- Style your dining table with simple place settings, fresh flowers, or a tasteful centerpiece.
07
Welcome Basket
- If you have a welcome basket or gift for guests, display it neatly so we can feature it in the photos.

Fire Pit Prep
- Wood-burning: Have dry wood, kindling, and a lighter on hand and ready to go.
- Gas: Ensure the propane tank is full, or know where the valve is located so we can turn it on quickly.

- Let me know in advance if there are any specific shots you'd love to capture.
- I'm happy to help with small styling touches on the day — fluffing pillows, folding blankets, arranging décor — to get the perfect shot.
